Remote Learning Plan

Remote Learning Information

In the event that a remote learning day is called, students will participate in asynchronous instruction. Asynchronous instruction means that students will complete lessons and assignments on their own schedule, rather than in real-time with a teacher. While there will be no live class sessions, all assignments and materials will be provided, and students are expected to work independently to complete the tasks for the day.

If you experience any connectivity issues or difficulties with completing the work, please remember that according to CCS School Board Policy, students have up to five (5) days to submit their assignments upon returning to school. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility with remote learning.

 

Specific instructions for your school's remote learning plan are as follows:

6th Grade Inclement Weather Choice Board

Pick one activity from each row on the choice board below per day. Complete all activities carefully and follow the instructions under the board for each one.

When you are finished, show your work to your homeroom teacher so they can check it off for your attendance. 

 

ELA

Write about your day using sequence vocabulary words. 

Write a descriptive paragraph using all five senses to describe the weather. 

Read for 30 minutes and write a summary about what you read. 

Math

Division:

Draw or design a poster that incorporates at least 3 long division problems and their solutions.

Real-life Scenarios:

Write 3 word problems involving decimal subtraction.  (Ex: money measurements)  Solve them and explain your steps.

Area Art:

Draw a picture made of rectangles (ex: house or robot).  Label the dimensions and calculate the total area.

Science 

Materials Matter: 

Find a material in your home that is a conductor and one that is an insulator. 

Draw a model of each material. 

Write a caption comparing what your model shows about energy movement in each material.

Data Journal:

Collect data on something during your day (ex: minutes reading, number of snacks, times you turn on the light, etc). Collect at least 5 data points. Make a data table and a hand-drawn graph. 

Explain: What you tracked, what you noticed, one conclusion you can make.

I Spy

Create a full page drawing of a scene that illustrates different types of energy transfer present in our daily lives (include thermal, electrical, and electromagnetic waves). On the back of the page, explain the  examples of energy transfer in your scene.  We will play I-Spy with your drawing!

Family Timeline
Interview someone at home and create a timeline with 10 major events from their life.  If someone isn’t home, no worries, create a timeline on yourself.

Map Your Home
Draw a map of your home or room. Include a compass rose, scale (your choice!), labels, and a key.

News Broadcast

Create a news broadcast that would describe what the weather is like today and three ways it would affect the people and community living during the time period you are studying right now.  Be specific with your responses.  Be sure to write out what you would say on a piece of paper.

Take a slow “mindfulness walk” around your home.

Winter Mood Sketch

Sketch or paint how today’s weather feels. You can use shapes, lines, colors, or textures—no requirement for realism.

No Atmosphere: 

Draw a model of what the Earth would look like without our atmosphere and annotate the model to explain your drawing. Include the visible and invisible effects of no atmosphere on Earth.

The Amazing Human Body

Ask an adult to go on a run with you around your neighborhood or a park. While running, think about how each of your body systems are working to help you on your run. Write what at least 4 body systems did to make your run possible.

Create a flipbook that illustrates different angle relationships with examples and explanations.

Function Story

Write a short story that describes a real-life situation for a linear function.

Real-World Application

Find a real-world example of a linear relationship and present it.

Science 

Balancing Act: 

Develop 2 representations of a chemical reaction. 

One should show the law of conservation of mass being MET and the other NOT MET. Include labels and explanations for each.
